IIT Madras Research Park Phase Three expansion

Overall, the research park's clientele stood at 192 as of March 2026, which included 95 industrial R&D centres, 59 start-ups, 17 centres of excellence (CoEs) and 3 incubators and 18 other enablers.

Interestingly, IIT-M RP witnessed a 20 per cent change in its client portfolio in FY26 as part of a cycle of new onboardings, expan- sions and exits, according to additional information made available to businessline by IIT-M RP.

NEW CLIENTS

"Our new clients are increasingly aligned with our strategic focus on frontier technology sectors. The clients onboarded this year included companies operating in fron- tier strategic technologies across AI, semiconductors, aerospace, sustainability, healthcare and advanced manufacturing." the RP said.

Some noteworthy additions to IIT-M RP's ecosystem in FY26 included German advanced optics and optoelectronics Zeiss, semi- conductor start-up Vyoma Systems, spacetech start-up SatLabs, healthcare start-up ISMO Bio-Photonics and Murugappa Group's Coromandel.

KEY DEVELOPMENTS

Among key developments this year are IIT-M RP's launch of a 600 crore IIT- Madras Unicorn Frontier Fund, which will distribute capital in the range of 5-10 crore to support start-ups working in areas such as de- fence, climate tech, quantum computing and semiconductors, among others.

In FY26, the Research Park, in collaboration with the Government of Tamil Nadu, announced plans for the development of a Centre for Advanced Semiconductor Technologies (COAS) as a centre to integrate fabrication, packaging, testing, applied research and industry-driven innovation and capture the $1 trillion semiconductor opportunity.

The Research Park, working closely with the IIT- Madras Incubation Cell, has supported over 580 ventures collectively valued about $8.5 billion. The ecosystem also includes over 250 research focused labs across 17 sectors. These organisations have collectively created over 13,000 job opportunities and filed over 700 patents.
