The Hon’ble Union minister for Railways, Communications & Information Technology, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw visited the indigenously developed 5G testbed at IIT Madras Research Park (IITMRP) on Thursday, 19th May, 2022.
Marking a national milestone for the country, he successfully made India’s first audio-video call using next generation (5G) voice over new radio (VoNR) technology, designed, and developed end-to-end at the 5G testbed.
The continuous advancements made through the 5G testbed will continue to enable huge development opportunities to the entire 5G ecosystem in India.
The indigenous 5G testbed project is a unique collaborative effort of a pan-Indian multi-institutional team led by IIT Madras and CEWiT, which has enhanced national capability in telecom technology.
The Testbed is available to academia, research institutions, government bodies and industry for various R&D, product development and capacity development activities. The Testbed will go a long way in fostering the development of 5G ecosystem India.
